A little  trip inPausilypon

In these photos we can see the Pausilypon Imperial Villa. It was built in the first b.C. century by the Roman knight Publio Vedio Pollione. In 15 b.C. he died and the Villa has became Augusto's imperial residence. The aqueduct's pipes attendances are very interesting. There are a lot of legends about the Villa.

The last person that has lived there was Publio Elio Traiano Adriano.

The Palace of the Spirits at Marechiaro is definitely one of the most mysterious and suggestive places in Naples inserted in the beautiful scenery of the Pausilypon archaeological park and the sea. According to legends, his ghosts appearing at night.


The Palace or Villa of the Spirits or Villarosa is the ancient structure of the Roman period of the 1st century BC. which survived time and weather.
For those who do not know it, the villa presents itself as a modern.
It is inserted into the protected archaeological and environmental marine zone of Pausilypon that has returned to Naples another jewel to be valued and promoted since 2009.

The Palace of the Spirits remains the only trace of the ancient Ninfeo erected by  Publio Vedio Pollione for its majestic villa. The Emperor Augusto decided to spend the last moments of his life in the beautiful setting of "Pausilypon" literally means "a shiver of danger" or "relief from pain" (for the serenity that the landscape inspires) Area between Gaiola and the bay of Trentaremi. When Pollione died, the Villa has been the august residence of the Roman Emperor.

Today, the ruins of the villa and sea caves, above and below the sea surface, are visible, which sometimes emerge due to the phenomenon of bradyism.

The Palace of Spirits was first discovered in 1840 by the Royal Engineer Guglielmo Bechi and secretary of the Royal Institute, nowadays of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples.
Before this area was of no historical interest and from the 15th to the 17th century it was all abandoned.


Who were these ghosts? The legend attributes to the Villa or Palace of the Spirits a fame left: it was called "Domus praestigiarum", that is, "house of witchcraft".
According to popular legend, the villa is inhabited by ancient spirits and ghosts, and bear witness to the old Marechiaro fishermen and sailors who have fueled the spectral gold in the old ruin of the palace.

The most beautiful is about Virgilio. The fisher men say that they've heard sometimes beautiful sounds from the villa.

Others tell that they've seen a shining figure that was playing the cithara.
